Contracts Engineering Ltd is a privately owned precision engineering manufacturer based in Sittingbourne, Kent, UK. They have been providing high quality, cost effective precision subcontract manufacturing services since 1989 from their dedicated 11,500 sq. ft. facility. They manufacture sheet metal and related products for a broad mix of customers in the consumer and office, general industrial, heating / ventilation and retail shop fitting industries. Having recently expanded to additional units and investment with new punching to complement the existing Bystronic profile cutting and bending operations they wanted to see what was available to help further drive improvements to the CAD CAM front end and contacted Metamation with regards to the latest module MetaCAM Enterprise. “CREATING PARTS FOR OUR PUNCH AND PROFILE MACHINES TOGETHER” “We have been using MetaCAM for around 18 months and over that time we have had very good results from the existing software. We had impressive results in terms of reduced scrappage and large productivity improvements, thus the upgrade to Enterprise became a natural progression for us to move forward with Metamation,” states Troy Barratt, MD at Contracts Engineering. Mr. Barratt added, “We arranged for an Enterprise system demonstration and were completely taken back at how much functionality the Enterprise software had. We really liked the fact that the new system is database driven and the new graphical front end really gives a clear status on parts and jobs we have in the system along with the fact that it would also create parts for our punch and profile machines together without losing extra front end time was a winner for us. “TRAINING AND INSTALLATION” Our training and installation was booked and commenced 4 weeks later, like the initial MetaCAM Enterprise everything was well organised with converting our existing library of parts straight into the database system whilst our team were trained by another Metamation team member which really helped minimise our system change over time. We also received good coverage as office and factory staff familiarized themselves with the new interface. “BENEFITS” We are already seeing a lot of benefits with using the new system from clarity of information to the modules for revision control. Additionally, the interface with seen by machine operators is very user friendly, easy for them to re-arrange production as needed, and reduces our paper printing requirements. Now that our business has expanded we have office functions based in a new unit next to the existing factory. Having Enterprise has helped break down the distance and communication barriers as the machine operators receive real-time, graphical updates as programs are issued from the office.
